Where the heck is Blossvale?

Before this trip, there was no way I could've told you! But now I can point it out on the map pretty quickly! Just NE of Syracuse and Oneida Lake, and just NW of Rome and Utica. I'm not sure, however, if I ever saw the official town of Blossvale - if so, it was awfully small! Sylvan Beach is much larger and a more popular summer tourist destination, being lakeside and all. We stayed at a lovely place, called the Mayfair Campground. It was such a pretty setting that I immediately signed us up for extra days!

I think this was called Fish Creek - although it sure looks like it would qualify as a river to me! And I believe it connected up with Oneida Lake. But it was right at the back of our campground, and I do KNOW it was a great doggy swim spot! (more on this soon!) So see how pretty this spot was?

And here we all are - well, almost! We were lucky too, to not have any immediate neighbors on either side. More room for us and the kids! This is also where Tractor got loose once. While tethered outside, he had managed to get up and over one of the slide-out supports, and probably ended up dangling in his harness, so he simply backed-out of his harness and went on his way, exploring! We always either sit with the critters or at least check on them often, so I soon found that Tractor had gone missing!!! Eeek! Panic!!! But turns out, all I had to do was call him! He was only "next door," and came running as soon as he heard me. Thank goodness! And thank goodness there wasn't a large, hungry dog "next door!!!"

So here, to do this place justice, let's take a tour. And here are your two tour guides - SennyAnne and OurayDog. Just follow them, they know what to show you and just where to sniff and raise your leg (or for the daintier types, like Senny,...squat)!

To do things properly, you are supposed to make a big loop to get to our site. So that's what we'll show you! Here you go by a teeny creek of sorts.

And then you see more of their beautiful park-like setting, mown lawns and trees and little flower clusters.
Here are what look to be some lovely tiger lilies!

And look! You never know who you'll run into on the loop! Hey wait! That's Daddy and bro', Tractor!

Showing you their best side(s).
No, wait. Maybe this is their best side(s)!
Ah, it is rather warm and humid out! And that sign, while missing some important letters, does seem to say dogs are invited here! Hope you all brought your towels (or maybe you're like the dogs and don't need any?)!
Ahhhhh, how wonderful!!! That feels soooooooo good!
Ouray heads for shore, but Senny isn't quite ready yet!

OK, that was good, but shall we move on with the tour now?

Ouray and Tractor lead the way, but Senny decides to stop, drop, and roll one more time first.

And here we are! Home! And just a little ways past here, you can start the loop all over again!

But you'll have to go on our your own now - the kids have more important things to do...

But before we leave you entirely on your own, here's a view out behind our RV - nice, huh? Some of the ponds in the campground are a little "scummy" (kind of stagnant water, with algae and stuff growing), but they are still pretty!
And I loved the flowers!

  1. Great tour of the Campground, your pictures are amazing. The water of the oxbow you camped on are actually spring feed and feeds into Fish Creek that feeds into Oneida Lake. Occasionally, but rarely the oxbow gets the green "scum" bloom on it, Oneida Lake also gets a nasty algae bloom once a year.

-And thank you for the excellent write-up and complements on the campground.

-mark- from Mayfair Campground :) Found you on google/images, I've Really enjoyed your article, and thank you..
