Emlenton and then some

On the 26th, it was on to Emlenton, PA. The Gaslight Campground we stayed at here was our first experience with the "Golf Cart Gestapo" types we'd heard so much about on various campground reviews. Needless to say, this left a bad taste in our mouth for our entire stay at this particular RV park...!

OK, so this park had some cute things in their playground, and as many of you know (by now!), our kitties revel in playgrounds! They know how to make better use of such equipment than many kids! Anyways, there was a sign saying "no dogs" but there wasn't a single thing about no cats! However, it wasn't two seconds before this guy - who I'd initially thought to be friendly and welcoming - zoomed out in his golf cart to criminalize us and demand our immediate retreat. It's one thing to politely ask that one not take their cats into said area, it's quite another to run out, accuse, and crossly demand! And gee, look how cute our little guy is out there! The guy was just a jerk! And Tractor didn't hurt a darn thing. And I'm pretty sure if you ask any kids, they'd vote to keep the cats IN the playgrounds!!!

Another wonderful aspect of this campground was its splendidly unlevel sites. Sarcasm? Yup. Check out the tires in the air... Had we not had the blocks with us, we would've had to find another campground - maybe not a bad idea, actually!

Cool cicada-like guy.

Pretty flowering hostas.

Tractors in Space! No? Well, something similar anyways!

A look at Emlenton proper from the freeway. The campground was actually up the hill, on the other side of the river.

Remember the "meeting" Bill had while sitting on a bench in Thomas Jefferson's Monticello estate in VA? Well, yeah, here's another one...in the Emlenton truck...

An outing to see some of PA's oil country (PA was where oil was first discovered in America - did you know that? No, neither did I!). Here is downtown Franklin.

And Oil City (and you ask "what's in a name?" Well...).

Some of these old towns were built on fairly steep hillsides - Emlenton and Oil City being two examples. This pretty church was perched way up this winding road.

I didn't get any great photos of this gorgeous building (we were driving by too fast, and then of course there are always the beautiful traffic cones they have out when you want to take a picture!), but this, believe it or not, is their library!

And yes, so now you know where the Pennzoil Co. name came from...
