On July 20th, we moved to another beautiful campground (the Arrowhead Marina). It was right on the Mohawk River in Schenectady, NY (yup, still in NY! Another BIG state! plus, we wandered north and then wandered south!). This campground was one of our favorites - it was more like a park with all of its trees and mown grass and riverfront access. And Schenectady was better than we anticipated too. Yeah, there are old, more run-down parts of it, but there's also a nice, newly refurbished downtown as well. AND...there's a Popeye's Chicken place there!! If I haven't already mentioned it (as we really began our whole Popeye's Odyssey back in the south, in Louisiana or earlier!), Popeye's has THE BEST fried chicken, bar none!!!!! We have NO idea why KFC is everywhere - Popeye's should be the winner, hands down!!!!! And they have better biscuits, better gravy on their potatoes, they even have a yummy jambalaya dish, and some of them have sweet potato pie! OK, enough about the food...
Here's a view of a very serene afternoon, one spent strolling around our campground and gazing across the Mohawk.
Some folks who were at an actual park (see, we had it much better than they did - while our campground was not technically a park, it was just as pretty as one AND we got to live in it!!!! This was an experience we repeated many times on this trip - definitely one of the greatest perks of RVing!!!!), going canoeing.
OK, so another tour...of our campground, led this time by Tractor. Here's some of the marina docks that all our kids got to practice walking on. It was all a bit intimidating at first (they've been on other docks, but these ones probably moved around more than the others had), but they soon got the hang of it - another tool in their experience basket!
Gorgeous marina and river!
And here's our park, I mean campground!
One of the little roads through it.
Uh-oh, guide's getting tired... He'll be OK again after this brief intermission... So stick around! We will continue shortly! (actually, we had stopped to talk to folks, and the cats know, this means it's time to lay down because it's going to be awhile!!)
And here's our space! This was pretty funny and gave many of our neighbors a good laugh! When I called up to make reservations here, I asked for a 50amp spot, as we really need that extra 20amps (30amps is sort of the default setting most campgrounds have) for running A/C, heaters, microwave, oven, vacuum, etc.! Well, they only had one left, and it was really a tent space (recently equipped with 50amp)!!! But one of the owners looked over the site for me and decided a 40' RV could fit! Needless to say, it was a bit of a maneuvering challenge for us to get it into the space, but Bill has gotten quite adept at driving our humoungous rig, and we made it! So, it was a big surprise for most to walk by this forested, overgrown space and see this gigantic motor home staring back at them! But we figure we had one of the best spaces, because it was so pretty and private!
OK, now a different kind of tour - Tractor shares many of his favorite sleeping spaces! This one was one of his odder, more impromptu ones - atop a folded chair (we were in traveling mode).
