On to Nova Scotia - First Stop: Glen Margaret

Welcome! To Nova Scotia! Long held mystical and romanticized in my head, NS was very pretty but not as rugged and daunting as my imaginings. But maybe that's because it was summer...!

Our first stay in NS was at the Wayside Campground in Glen Margaret. We chose this place partly because of good reviews and partly because of location - it's just a bit south of Peggy's Cove (one of the places fellow travelers had recommended) and a relatively short drive west of Lunenberg (another recommended spot).

Another kindred spirit discovered! Kate is so cool!! She, and her black G shep mix?, Kuma, live in Vancouver but were doing a 6 month road trip in a van-type RV. And she's originally from Australia - but we met her in Nova Scotia! You gotta love it! You just never know where or when you'll run across a special someone! And here, to fully appreciate this group photo, you'll need a few details - such as the camera was actually placed in the open microwave in order to get a self-timer shot...

Kate joins us for dinner, and Tractor does his best to make her feel at home.

Tractor enjoys some downtime...in his box. And Ouray finds himself "boxed in."

Glen Margaret was also fairly close to Halifax, which we ended up visiting more often than desired due to mail fiascos. But at least we got to try these Newfie fries! They were like regular fries with gravy and dressing on top. It was also cute and interesting? how they put their coke cans in little paper bags!?!

A sunset view from our RV! This was just across the street from the RV park, and we were lucky enough to get a front row seat (a little noisier than the back sites, but a nicer scene!).

This area of NS is pretty well inhabited, but it is also idyllic and pretty. Forested land masses surrounded by rocky shorelines and peaceful bays. Dinghies and sailboats all over. Weathered shacks and seaweed. Very scenic and picturesque.

A cloudy, moody day on the bay (or in the cove...).

Pretty tranquil, eh?

Appropriate paint job?

See? Picturesque, yes?

And with the Canadian colors.

Cool stuff.

And on a sunnier, perfect day...

And one more across-the-street sunset...
